Sparta United coaches play a key role in shaping player development, team culture, and the overall club experience. Our coaches are expected to deliver organised, high-quality training, model professionalism on and off the pitch, and follow club standards for communication, safety, and player care. Whether you are a current Sparta coach or exploring the pathway to join our staff, this section outlines the expectations, resources, and support that help every coach deliver a consistent Sparta experience.

Coach Mentorship Program
Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a competitive soccer coach?
Come find out through our new Coach Mentorship Program!
This is a PAID position that will allow you to shadow our experienced coaches, learn from the very best, and eventually take on a team of your own!
Over the course of the Spring season you will be assigned to a current team/coach to shadow, assist, and learn with the intention of being given the opportunity to be the head coach and select an Academy team at tryouts in May!

Coaches Expectations
The Coach is hired by the Director of Coaching, Technical Director and approved by the Executive Board. The Coach has the following responsibilities:
- Selecting and deleting players from the team
- To motivate, teach and constructively criticize players of the team
- To provide player evaluations annually for each player
- Establishing and implementing training techniques in accordance with the format developed by the Director of Coaching and Technical Director
- Securing a substitute coach if for any reason you are unable to attend a game or practice
- Determining tactics and formations for the team
- Determining playing positions for the team
- Determine playing time for each player
- Determining times for training sessions in conjunction with club training
- Selecting tournaments in which the team will play in conjunction with the Director of Coaching and the Technical Director
- Ensure that the uniform policy is enforced for practice and games. Players must be wearing adidas whenever representing Sparta United Soccer Club
- Selecting a team manager and approving any parental team support
- Keep good communication with the manager regarding team finances
- Assist team manager with fee collection when required
- Be available to parents to discuss players
- Keep good communication with parents of the team
In addition, the coach will:
- Lead by example
- Wear club provided adidas gear whenever representing Sparta United Soccer Club, i.e. games, practices and other club sponsored events
- Fulfill all Club expectations
- Be ultimately responsible for the team regarding the enforcement of all club, team, league and UYSA policies, procedures, rules, regulations, including the philosophy of the Club
- Attend all scheduled club coaches meetings, including special meetings called by the Director of Coaching, Technical Director or Executive Board
- At no time, handle any team or club funds, including the maintenance of bank accounts or accounting records
Prospective Coaches
Are you currently coaching youth soccer or looking to coach youth soccer? If so, Sparta is looking for you! Sparta is looking for coaches for the following boys and girls programs:
- Pre-Academy (U6 - U8)
- Academy (U9 - U12)
- Competitive (U13 - U19)
